PQQ-Mind: yet another antioxidant? Yes, but an extremely interesting one!
PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline Quinone) is a newly discovered micronutrient that is naturally found in foods such as soybeans, parsley,
and green pepper. It is found in numerous bacteria and is of tremendous importance in plant biology.
Recent research has revealed that PQQ may be extremely useful for animals, as well. Preclinical work indicated that PQQ is
a potent enhancer of nerve regeneration. It is therefore of great interest in human neurological health.
Clinical studies suggest that PQQ may improve cognitive function, contribute to slowing the aging process, and stimulate neural
energy production.
PQQ is currently of interest in the following applications:
- peripheral nerve repair
- stroke
- prevention of neurotoxicity
- Parkinson’s disease
- Alzheimer’s
- cancers of the nervous system
- protection from radiation
- cellular energy production
- neonatal survival
- resistance to stress
