Grape Seed Extract: You’d have to eat more than 100,000 seedless grapes to get the benefits of one capsule!
Grape seed extract (GSE), from the seeds of red grapes, have a
high content of flavonoid compounds known as OPCs. OPCs have
exceptional antioxidant properties — they are far more
effective than vitamins C or E in reducing free radical and oxidative
damage to body tissues.
The medical literature suggests the following applications for GSE:
- reducing the risk of cancer
- inhibiting the development of cardiovascular disease
- suppressing diseases associated with aging.
In a study of tobacco-induced cell- and DNA-damage, GSE reduced damage and cell death by as much as 85%.
GSE has also been shown to inhibit the oxidation of LDL — oxidized LDL is a major promoter of atherosclerosis.

have a high content of flavonoid compounds known as oligomeric
proanthocyanidins (OPCs). OPCs have exceptional antioxidant properties
— they are far more effective than vitamins C or E in reducing free
radical and oxidative damage to body tissues. This suggests that they
may be particularly effective in reducing the risk of cancer,
cardiovascular disease, and some diseases associated with aging.
Studies using human breast cancer and lung
cancer cells revealed that GSE was able to cause the death of the
cancer cells, while maintaining the growth and viability of the normal
cells. In a study of tobacco-induced cell- and DNA-damage, GSE reduced
damage and cell death by as much as 85%.
When GSE was added to human blood plasma, it
inhibited the oxidation of LDL — oxidized LDL is a major promoter of
atherosclerosis. GSE’s cardiovascular benefits are considerably
enhanced when it is combined with a chromium supplement.
Animal studies suggest that GSE may also be anti-inflammatory, increase circulation (by vasodilation), enhance blood vessel
integrity, and counteract edema.
